Saab is now GM. And making money is the FIRST priority. That means, spending the least amount possible on new models. So the new Saab is actually a Subaru Impreza with a new front end. A new hatch and wheels complete the transformation. It's even made in Japan!

The exterior could almost look for a Saab. Mostly because of the hatchback design. But the interior is the real insult to Saab fans. Almost nothing has changed from the Impreza. And the little Subaru has one of the most boring interior of any car. Adding fake brushed aluminum and 2 tone seats doesn't make a Saab. And the key is not even on the center console!!! A real shame...
The current Subaru Impreza came out in 2000. By the time the 9.2 is out, that design will already be 4 years old!. GM admits the 9.2 will only be on sale for a few years, when an all new model will take over. This one will be much more of a Saab. The one pictured here is just a quick fix. To be honest, it is based on a very good car. So it will be very nice. And there's nothing wrong with a car company making money. It's a better alternative than bankruptcy A similar story to what GM is doing with the Pontiac GTO... |

No, Steely Dan has nothing to do with it, it's all GM's fault.
In their attempt to make Saab profitable, the only thing they could come up with is: an SUV. Who can blame them, really. It seems any company in trouble is doing it. It becomes a way to "get on the map". They first thought of using the Saturn Vue car platform. Not a bad idea. Then they thought of the Cadillac SRX one. Even better. But in the end, they went for "the cheap way". The new Saab 9.7 will use the trucky, body on frame, live axle, RWD, gas guzzling Chevrolet Trailblazer platform. That has to be the worst choice GM could have made. Who will buy this? Well, let's see... People who want a Saab won't go for it. They might go for a car based Crossover like the BMW X3 or X5. Or the Infiniti FX35, Nissan Murano etc...But not this. People who want a Truck don't even think of going into a Saab dealer. Who's left? Only the freaky snobs who just want "something different". And who doesn't know what the 9.7 really is. A fraud, made in the US for the US and Canadian market only. A European car not even available in Europe! |
