That's right, this is one of many Fords not sold in the US. For well over 50 years, Ford has been making cars in Europe. And these cars are not sold in the US. Well, except a few tries over the years. Like the Capri and the 2 Merkurs models.
More recently, the focus is actually a European Ford, put together in the US and Mexico when sold in North America. So what about this great looking mid-sized sedan? The 1st generation Mondeo came out in 1994, and was sold here as the Contour. This 2nd generation, pictured here, came out in 2000. It is larger than the Mondeo/Contour from the 90's, and would have made a great replacement for the Taurus. Ford doesn't need the 500 to compete with the Passat, when they already have this! What is wrong with these people?! This car is so good, most of the frame and some of its engines are used in the jaguar X type! But Ford US would rather produce 2 all new models, the mazda based Montego and Volvo based 500 to compete in the US. I guess they really have too much money to spend... The car comes with a new 1.8 Liter engine good for 130hp. Or a 2.5 V6 with 170hp and a top of the line 3.0 V6 with 226 hp. The engines are now available with an all new 6 speed manual. Wouldn't that be nice against a Camry or a Passat? |
