2005 Mercedes SLK.

The previous SLK was always a good looking car. But this one is even better. It still looks like a smaller version of the SL. Except now, it's a smaller version of the new SL.

The car is about 2 inches longer, and almost 2 inches wider. Which is a pretty big deal is a small 2 seater. The engines in the US will be the same 1.8 Liter Supercharged as before. And that is one great engine. There's really no need for more power or smoothness in this car. But if you must, you can get the all new 3.5 Liter V6.

Or if you really want to spend too much money for power you will NEVER use, get the AMG with 360 hp...

Most of the old SLK interior (and the rest of the car) can now be found on the Chrysler Crossfire. This new interior is light years ahead of the old one. Even futuristic looking. And now, you can even get a cool heating system that blows air from the headrests. So your neck is never cold. Isn't that great!!!!

2005/06 A Class.

The previous A class has been on sale in Europe since 1998. It was available only as a 4 door hatchback model. Mercedes added a long wheelbase model in 2001. Claiming that it had then more interior space than their own S class!!!!

The all new model is only available in a longer wheelbase. The new one is actually even larger than the old "long one"... Why??? Because they are bringing it to the US, that's why.

European car makers have been very afraid to sell they hatchback models in the US, but that is slowly changing. Thanks to the Mini Cooper.

And For the 1st time, the A class will be available as a coupe. Pictured above. Later, a B class wagon/crossover type will be available too.

The picture on top is the new 4 door. You can see the old one (bottom) although pretty futuristic when it came out, looks a bit bloated and soft, when compared to the new one. And it also looks more stable now, as well.

The engine for the US is likely to be the new 2.0 Liter with 136hp. That should be enough for a car that size. In Europe , it starts at about $23000. So don't expect the US model to be much under $25000...

Again, you can see the new interior is more square, compared to the old one. But the old one was one of the cheapest interior in the business! Mercedes seemed to take pride in finding the hardest, cheapest, ugliest plastics available to car makers.

The new one might not be futuristic, but at least, it looks and feels more like a Mercedes.

But HEY!!! Where does that leave the new Smart FourFour!! Also coming to the US! Both cars are pretty much the same size, trying to attract the same kind of people, sold by the same brand???!

II would hate to be the one trying to market these two...
